SOAR21 - Pull-out Program

Students attend school to learn and grow. Learning occurs when children are challenged within their zone of proximal development. If students are being challenged in their regular classroom, they are being taught within their zone of proximal development; that is when they are going to learn and grow.
When students have a larger index of "What I can do", their zone of proximal development may be outside that of their peers. All students deserve the opportunity to learn and grow each year in school. In order to support 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students who need to be challenged in additional ways beyond that of the regular classroom, they will participate in the SOAR21 pull out program.

The Enrichment Academies
The 4th and 5th grade classes will participate in the "The Enrichment Academies" during the 2016-2017 school year! This program recognizes that all students have strengths, interests, and talents that can be applied in the 21st century. ALL 4th and 5th grade students will participate in an enrichment academy of their choice, that is being offered by 4th and 5th grade teachers. Non-graded groups of students will be mixed together in the academy of their choice to learn and grow together. This is an amazing opportunity for students to learn a new skill and dig deeper into their interests and passions. The experiences they have in the academy will prepare them for the 21st century and relate to their future life experiences.

Small Group Enrichment
Students who do not meet the criteria for SOAR21, but need an extra challenge in specific areas of school, will participate in a small enrichment group. This group will meet for about 8 classes in which they will complete one unit that challenges them in a real world way with related content and skills. These enrichment groups are considered an extension of the in-class differentation our amazing teachers in Cresskill already provide and are meant to be challenging experiences. The group will meet once a week during either a PARE period or related math/ela periods. Some skills can be extended beyond our meetings, for independent enrichment in and out of class. For more information on the topics covered in each of the academic enrichment groups, please click the respective button below.
In class Differentiation
As different units are introduced throughout the year, some students have already mastered the content. Based on teacher assessments, students who need an extra challenge in different subjects and at different times throughout the year, will access additional resources and projects. These resources may come in the form of a long term project or may entail students accessing the resources page on this website. Feedback on all resources is greatly appreciated so that they can be tailored appropriately to meet the needs of the students.
